THE VISITOR HAS ARRIVED…THE SAGA OF ROCK PROVOCATEUR DALEA By Sandra Castillo

The constellation is filled with an infinite host of celestial bodies, their illumination awakening the darkness in a blanket of stars. As the otherworldly traveler crisscrosses the interplanetary providence, surrounded in its blinding, white light, she bravely sets out on the million-mile journey to reach her destination. Upon Earth’s entry, she descends, valiantly touches down, the ground beneath her a barren, parched arena. There are no visible signs of life anywhere, save for the arid desert winds which sweep past her in a mad rush to claim the one, remaining tumbleweed skirting its way across the forsaken riverbed. She lifts herself off the ground to begin the long trek into the great unknown. Where her feet will carry her, only the Universe knows and summons the call that the Visitor has finally arrived…
International singing sensation Dalea has just released her much anticipated, long-awaited third studio album, VISITOR, to the sheer delight of her fans who just cannot get enough of this multi-talented singer. A vanguard masterpiece of epic proportions, she transcends space and time on this 15-song tour-de-force. From the majestic opening track, “Arrival,” which heralds her sojourn from the great beyond, to the fantastic acceleration of “Speed Racer” to the stirring “Earth Mother,” which warns mankind of its own inevitable demise as the result of relentless greed and indifference in preserving the sensitive balance of the world’s natural, albeit declining resources, it’s All Systems Go! for the one who has only been actively creating and recording music since the genesis of her first, musical incarnation, Quimera Music, a band that she fronted in New York City from 2009 until 2013, the latter year confirming her decision to go solo as a recording artist. That was also the same time frame in which Dalea released two outstanding bodies of work-LOVE AND MADNESS and IMMORTAL.
Dalea is one of contemporary music’s most gifted talents, who possesses an exotic, Angelina Jolie-esque beauty and extraordinary, sultry range to find her rightful place in the exclusive hierarchy of Rock and Roll. Her rich, vocal prowess is an elixir of seductiveness, undulating and shimmering in the waters of its own enchantment and power. By tethering her vocals to the magnificent, tempestuous storms that set the ambience and moodscape of VISITOR, Dalea has formulated the perfect amalgamation of sound and listening experience. Of course, when one, such as she, teams up with the legendary Swedish music composer Patrick Rundblad, who created the melodies and plays lead guitar and piano on the album’s tracks, it really comes as no surprise that her music definitely crushes most of its competition in the process. It just needs to be heard to be believed. Pure, unadulterated Rock and Roll set against the lush background of symphonic bliss exploding its way across the heavens, while supercharged with enough fire power to launch a thousand-and-one missiles, VISITOR claims victory for the super, musical phenom destined for worldwide domination.

RG Magazine recently spoke with Dalea, from her home in Los Angeles, California, about VISITOR, which took her more than two-and-a-half years to complete. Although she was gracious enough to promptly provide the answers for this interview, she was already planning ahead for the next phase of the ongoing saga of Dalea.
RGM-Your latest masterpiece, VISITOR, plays out like aural cinema. What is it about this specific genre, creative aspect of utilizing Fantasy/Sci-Fi into your work that makes it so important to you?

Dalea- Thank you, so much. Well, my music already has a film/soundtrack vibe to it, so Fantasy and Sci-Fi are a great gateway for me to create the worlds I dream of, away from ordinary life. Being a trained fashion designer, the ability to support my music with great costumes and make-up is simply irresistible.
RGM-Is it safe to say that Dalea is the VISITOR, as indicated by several of the videos filmed on behalf of the title track and the overall theme of the album?
Dalea-Absolutely! Many songs on the album are from a point of view of a visitor from another world.
RGM-When did you begin conceptualizing, coming up with the ideas for this album?

Dalea-December, 2013, while vacationing with my Swedish family. We were taking a long walk by the Uppsala Castle Gardens, discussing the songs on my new album. I hadn’t decided on a theme yet, but in the quietness of the winter-white royal walkways, all of a sudden, I knew exactly what I had to do.
RGM-Where did you record VISITOR?
Dalea-At Smash Studios in New York and PR Music Productions in New York and Los Angeles.
RGM-Are there any particular muses who helped shape the theme of the record?
Dalea-Muses? Yes! My muses are film heroines, like (in no particular order) Sigourney Weaver in Aliens and Avatar. Noomi Rapace, her characters in Prometheus and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, (Go, Sweden!) and Angelina Jolie. I must mention singer Lana Del Rey, as a source of strength; I respect her so much, because like myself, she does not sound or dress like any other singers out there, yet she still made it.
RGM-Where was the cover of VISITOR taken?
Dalea-The main photos were shot in the Mojave Desert, in California. There are some PR Images that are CGI, created in-house at Dalea Studios.
RGM-You are stunning, characteristically otherworldly, which you convey so beautifully in your music and videos, specifically the anthems. Any thoughts about why you reveal yourself, as an artist, in this light?
Dalea-Thank you so much! I wish I could tell you that I have a deliberate marketing plan, but the truth is I release what comes from inside, who I am. My music and visuals are from very personal parts of my being and experiences in life. There is magic in this universe. I see it very frequently.
RGM-Are there any plans to perform the music from VISITOR, whether it’s done at a venue or on a tour?
Dalea-From 2009 to 2013, I spent a lot of time touring, playing the New York circuit, while at the same time releasing music. I absolutely love performing, but for this new album, I decided that, until I get the right support to put together a show deserving of the music, I will, instead, use my time to produce, film new music videos, write more music and continue charging forward for the right (record) label to bring me in and support me. For example, I am currently recording selected tracks from VISITOR in Spanish, since I have a great deal of fans in Latin America and Spain. I am also in the middle of filming the music video for “Angels Fall,” which is a track taken from my new album.
RGM-Who is the designer responsible for the awesome outfits you wear on the album cover of VISITOR and in your respective videos?
Dalea-Thank you for noticing! For my music videos, they are a mix of Alexander McQueen, Black Milk Australia and my own designs. For my album artwork, I designed the cat suit. I studied fashion design/merchandising and used to work as a designer in New York (DKNY, Vanity Fair) before dedicating myself to music full-time.
RGM-Any parting words of wisdom for those who choose music as a career, conduit for their creativity?
Dalea-If you really (REALLY) love music, then you must pursue it or you will always feel something is missing in you. Don’t go into a music career unless you are truly in love with music. Without love, you won’t be able to withstand the struggle, rejection and demanding training necessary to reach your personal greatness. The music business is not for the faint of heart; some make it all the way up, many, many more don’t. But, if you love music, music will love you back and never, ever leave you, even in your darkest hours.dalea-utopia-web
