I Chin Lin came to America like so many other artists looking to expand her talent to new levels that she could not manage back in her native land. She came from Taiwan with a vision and a goal to accomplish more with her love of photography. In Taiwan she attended the Shih Hsin University where she graduated with a BS in Graphic Communication and Digital Publishing. But that was only the beginning of her journey.

She would soon depart for the shinning lights of New York and settle in the bustling borough of Brooklyn. I Chin would forge ahead and complete a Masters in Package Design at Pratt Institute. This set the stage for her to build on what she began in Taiwan. She was fortunate to have family living in nearby New Jersey so settling in New York was not so difficult.  I Chin first caught the “camera bug” as a teenager during the serge of technology in the early 2000’s and latched on for the long ride. The advancement of the digital camera drew her in and inspired her to approach photography.

Even though with the advancement of technology, I Chin still was taught the importance of using the traditional camera. She admits that any well-respected photographer needs to master the traditional way of taking pictures. “You need that foundation,” she added. For I Chin who admits to being a bit of a loner, photography has offered her the opportunity to be at peace and capture the beauty of life through her works.

“Photography is emotional to me. It is how I express how I feel about things.”

She has taken all types of photos from people to objects but she prefers focusing on the human spirit. I Chin enjoys capturing people in their natural state and the end result can develop into a motivational piece. A majority of her pictures are of people she knows and cares about, which is unique and interesting in a way.  She is not only versed in photography but also advertising and visual graphic design,photo-shop / retouching and seasonal display installations.

“I just wish one day I can change the world by showing how awesome people can be through my lens.”

Since being in New York for the past four years she has shown her work at various venues / events. This year has turned out to be a busy year for her. In February she was part of an exhibit at the Westfield World Trade Center which was a New Year Exhibition by the Arts and Music Celebration in partnership with the Asian Cultural Center. After that she was part of the Conception Arts Show which featured artist from all over the world.

Coming up her work will be displayed at the Downtown Arts Collective in Orlando, Florida as part of the Fashion & Photography Exhibition which runs from 2/21-3/16. Around the same time on March 15 she will be featured at the Brooklyn Gallery show (

To top all this off her work was selected for an award by the F the Art World in Chelsea, New York which will be presenting awards on 4/25/19. The work that was chosen is entitled “Us Trace”. I Chin has made some impressive strides in the short time she has been here.  Her ultimate goal is to work on album art for musicians since music has always been a key inspiration for her photography.
